Miss Cloud

She makes her human laugh! This morning the human was about to take her shower - she'd already dumped out their special bathtub water bowl when Cloud made an appearance. So poignant! So plaintive! The poor "kitten" surveyed the empty expanse of bathtub... So the human halfway filled up the yellow bowl, and Cloud began to drink. The human wandered away to putter briefly, and when she returned Cloud was long gone and the yellow bowl was upturned and empty.... What exactly was the Cloudling trying to say? Was she showing me up for giving her only a partial drink? Or was it just an opportunity to drink and spill at the same time??

Tired Human Apologizes

The guys - as always - are so sweet... Early this morning there was Buddy; later 'Toonya took over; Angel melodramatically came and went; Cyrrie gobbled multiple fingers; Banshee had an asthma attack, which freaked her poor human; AreToo was way cute; Lucy was right there under foot, and Cloud was not currently available (she showed tonight). Love to all our regular readers - human will try to do better in future...

922 Cats And "Kittens" Prep For The Debate

Step 1 - Human comes home and resurrects the antique but still functional television, at the same time disconnecting the antique and dead "vcr"... The television is moved to the dining room table, plugged in - and we have a picture! (We turn the sound off.)
Step 2 - Human goes to AAR and one of her favorite blogs on the laptop.
Step 3 - FancyFeast for cats and "kittens"....!
Step 4 - Human pours herself a drink - not because of drinking games - not that there isn't an appeal there - but just on general principals - listen to John McSame totally sober? In fact, she'd better hunt down some catnip, too!
Step 5 - Human ceremonially puts on her"Cat Lovers For Obama" button.....

Awesome

I had put the somewhat-the-worse-for-wear fucsia (sp?) back out on the porch, and this morning I had my first ever humming bird visitor! Alas that neither cats nor "kittens" were present to enjoy it with me!

Even As I Typed

As I typed that last post I was hearing rustling noises - Yup, it was Cyrrie-the-Foodie, almost but not quite helping himself to my sandwich for tomorrow... (It's now safely in the fridge, where no doubt I'll forget about it entirely.) (See, Cyrrie sez, Better I should munch it right now!)

Maneuvers

And complicated ones, at that: Location? Bathroom generally and bathtub specifically. Soon after the human comes home from work, she surveys the following - in the bathtub, Cyrano, staring pointedly at the quite full but many hours old bowl of water; on the footstool placed there for her very own self, PetunniaPetunnia, staring pointedly at Cyrrie. And then in comes trouble incarnate - the Angel himself. He rests his paws on the edge of the bathtub and considers the situation, weighing the potential victims and the potential paybacks. But wait! He sees the possibility of a 2fer, and so jumps up on the tub then down between the side of the tub and the curtain. Even the watching human gets nervous. Then fate, or something, intervenes - AreToo chases Cloud into the bathroom, with the human clapping at him to stop. Cloud jumps into the bathtub, Angel jumps out, and Cloud rebounds, chasing the A boyz right on out of the bathroom altogether. Cyrrie and 'Toonya are the beneficiaries of the "new water, good water" - which Cloud comes back to enjoy. "New water, good water." A happy ending...

5:30 AM

The alarm went off and the human calculated she could squeeze in 1 hit on the snooze button, 2 max, but she didn't take the Angel into account. As soon as the alarm went off, Angel wanted her up. He kneaded and nudged her toward the edge of the bed, and when that didn't work he jumped on her (fortunately Angel is one of the - few - light weight ones). When that didn't work he jumped off the bed, stood on his back legs and patted the human's eyelids. She was bound and determined to make it to the next alarm at least, and he was bound and determined to get her upright. He won. Of course. And when the sleepy human stumbled into the kitchen she expected to find an empty bowl crisis at the very least. Nope. Why was Angel so crazy to get her out of bed this morning? No idea. None what-so-ever...

Good Omen Blogging

Amazing but true - Auntie Jen found the human's peace sign! It was under the book case that is attached to our reference desk... And the porch was finished today! Pics manana....

Home Coming

FancyFeast for cats and "kittens", but only after making an emergency book run to the Grandhuman - no new books, alas - but this librarian is a proponent of rereading (it's like comfort food). (On the menu? A bagful of random Elizabeth Peters / Amelia Peabody and a couple of Terry Pratchett's for dessert...)

Long Weird Day

First it was long - not the longest ever, by any means, but way long enough. Second, well, it was busy and hot, although no way as hot as last week... Third, we - i.e., the College - got hacked - or something - no end of problems with email, courseware, etc. And then I had to go and lose my peace sign - when I came in tonight the chain was still draped around my neck, but the charm was gone. Drat. I'm still hoping it will turn up in my car or office or driveway or. But if not I'll probably take it as an omen, and be even more depressed than I already am. So, the heck with all that, let's talk cats and "kittens" and - thx for asking, TPC - the porch. They poured the slab yesterday, and asked me if I wanted it "broomed" or not. Broomed? (I said Yes, in the end.) Today as I left for work they were putting on the stone facing - and it was pretty! It was dark when I got home tonight, so I don't know if they finished or not, but, especially since I had no idea what to expect, I was totally surprised and delighted by what I've seen so far. Cats and "kittens" this morning were kind of getting used to the porch workers - after initially disappearing, some of them crept back to watch - Banshee and Lucy from the dining room table, and Cloud from the little table by the window....

Last Night's Sleeping Patterns

These days it's usually Angel who snoozes on the pillow beside his human, but last night AreToo beat him to it - and refused to retreat when Angel applied pressure. Not psychological pressure, physical pressure - as in Angel worked/wedged himself in between AreToo and the headboard, and proceeded to fall asleep half on top of the poor Droid. Who refused to budge. Eventually the Angel gave up, but everytime the human woke up in the middle of the night, there was AreToo, firmly sprawled on the pillow, sort of like gravity... He only got up a little before the human did herself.

Whew...

Only 2 weeks into the new semester and this human is exhausted - without ac our 60's era building is a scalding, suffocating inferno - it sucks the life right out of you... And then of course there's uncertainty of when will the porch be finished, when will the windows get started, what else will go wrong, etc. Nice to come home to our ac, and of course, babiez. I am, however, worried about AreToo and Lucy, who have both puked several times today - other than that they look and act perfectly healthy. A coordinated attack of hairballs? We will be watching closely....

Incremental Blogging

Still waiting - porch, windows... I will say my little Droid was social today, when Lisa came to help me out with more basic stuff.... When Lisa left, only Buddy appeared, to his human's surprise - turned out, someone had seriously closed the attic door. When the human opened it, there were Angel, Cyrrie, Banshee and Cloud - all lined up and waiting patiently.

Change

The noisiness of taking out the old porch was bad. Having strange humans in the house was... strange. Looking out on their missing porch was probably weird - by then their human had gone to work. But nothing compared to the shock of having their human come in through the wrong door!

Stressed!

aTotally unexpected, our porch is being worked on... today! I had an appointment to look at stone this afternoon, but was surprised this morning by a request to begin puling the old porch down today. When I said I had a lot of stuff to move first, they said they'd move it for me, so - 6 pots of tomatoes (more on that later), all of the herbs and a bunch of flowers got toted to the back yard, and the work began (cats and "kittens" for the most part retired to the attic). I had already cleared out the landing where the never-used side door is, so I left that way when I went to the stone-yard. (We settled on a pretty mix of reddish purple and greenish.) The real trouble started when I came back home and the key I assumed would open the side door didn't, and neither did any other key on 2 key rings. With the help of 2 concerned construction workers I managed to climb a pile of rubble and get in via the front door. Then I called the locksmith. Oy. And now for the important part: Lucy was very cool, AreToo came out for a while and - amazingly - Buddy put in an appearance for a bit (and was duly cuddled).

Our New Fountain

Human is a Pisces, ok? She's probably as bad as Angel and the other water-babies in her own way... This is actually her 4th fountain: the first one was way expensive, even on sale - and also way beautiful. It's still in the basement - I think it could be repaired, only not by me...The second was really inexpesive - from a catalog - but still really cute. Also still in the basement.... The third cost $4.99 - cheap Chinese gadget, which worked - but went through batteries like crazy - can't have that, just can't. So one day this Summer the human googled "indoor fountains" - big mistake! Not terribly expensive, I still had no idea that it would arrive unassembled, without instructions. I let it sit for a couple of months, while I fumed. Finally with a little bit of (upper body strength) help I put it together - it's pretty enough, but everybody wanted to either drink from it or splash in it. Where to put it, where to put it...? Disassembled, carefully washed and dried, it's stored in the vestibule closet, at least until all the major construction projects are done.

Lovers And - Sometimes - Rivals

Yesterday, early -
Human was reading in bed as she always first thing on a day off - and Petunnia was lobbying for a lap-seat while the human tried to persuade her that a beside seat would be just as close but way more comfy - for 'Toonya, of course. Then Cyrrie arrived, like a little rocket ship - in fact he landed rather akwardly on her bended knee s. He stared at 'Toonya, took a few gobbles of his willing human's knuckles, then decided that later would probably be a better time...

Gutters Down

Windows and porch still to go! Before I left today, I gave them one of the talks - Don't worry if it gets noisy, it's all going to be ok.... And they were cool! Their human is so proud....

Sometimes it's celebratory, sometimes it's an antidote... (Cats and "kittens" probably don't really care which is which...) (But don't be too sure....)

Lost Comb Is Found

The comb disappeared this morning. The human keeps it on the kitchen counter, just inside the dining room door. But sometimes she forgets and leaves it on the table... This morning, after combing Lucy for the second time, it was nowhere to be found. The human looked under the tousled blankies and on the floor under the tablecloth. She then started to look in all sorts of weird corners where she might have absent-mindedly wandered by. Nada. It was one of those truly bewildering moments. But when she got to work and was rummaging through her brief-case, there it was! A humorous accident, you say? We don't think so!

Typical Morning

This morning there were senior and junior girls ranged across the dining room table top - Lucy on the corner where I'm always nervous she'll fall off, Cloud on the taller pile of blankies and Banshee the bBautiful in between. When you added the human girl and laptop, that made it even more crowded for the boyz who were coming and going, picking their way through the landmines of potentially grouchy siblings while eliciting pets from their human. The sun was beaming in, lighting up the floating silvery hairs that Currie was shedding just then, copiously.

The Power Of Cloud

There I am, at the bathroom sink, trying to put on makeup, when something bushes up against my bare leg - it is warm and softer than the softest softest soft ever. It is Miss Cloud! and I scoop her up and set her on my knees, where she starts to drool... I pet her and she purrs, until she decides to jump down. 2 seconds later we start all over. This time she licks and nibbles all my fingers (all of them - she is very thorough). Then she jumps down and - seconds later - starts over... This goes on for some time, but what better way to spend a holiday morning? Eventually she jumps into the bathtub to inspect the water situation. Now, earlier this morning Cyrrie supervised the replenishing of the water, and so I said, It's ok, Cloud - it is new water / good water... Not having a bit of it, our Cloud. That golden glower went on and on, until I dumped out the perfectly good fresh water and refilled the bowl.
