Attic, Cont.

After letting them run up and down for several hours, the human had to go out. Hmmm... Bansh, 'Toonya, Luz, Buddy, Cloud, Cyrrie and AreToo all accounted for. No Angel, not after calling and calling. So, calculate. What are the odds that Angel is actually upstairs, as opposed to under something or even downstairs? And, how long will the human actually be gone? Logically reassured, the human firmly closed the attic door, and headed out. Got as far as actually in the car. Engine never even started. Back into the house, leave the attic door ajar, and go out into the world with an easy conscience. Heating bill? So? So??

More Tales Of The Attic

Once Cyrrie was safely upstairs, the human took the opportunity to make herself a turkey sandwich, which she could then enjoy in peace. Sounds colder than it was - the grandhuman accidentally got hold of a Cajun-style turkey! And the human didn't want to give Cyrrie anything that spicy...

Last Treat Of The Holiday Weekend

I let them play up in the attic: Since it turned cold, I've tried to keep the (unfinished/uninsulated) attic stairway sealed off. Well, to the best of my ability, that is - rug against the door that's not quite long enough, towel stuffed under the gap, etc. And of course they come along and move the rug, and dig out the towel, and the next thing I know I'm freezing. So then I put the sweeper against the rug, and reinforce the towel with a footstool, but to no avail. And then there's the heart-wrenching pleading - picture Cloud dancing around the barricades, looking you right in the eye, then looking oh-so-meaningfully at the doorknob! Resistance is... almost futile. So today (I need to go up later, anyway, and fetch down the personal heaters) I gave in. I moved the sweeper for her, pulled back the rug, opened the door - only to have her stand there like, What? It's cold up there? And when tougher little Cyrrie gave her a helpful nudge, she - you guessed it- turned around and smacked him....

Saturday After Thanksgiving Blogging

We apologize for missing "Black Friday" - human was tired plus stiff and sore from falling last Monday - she contributed a salad plus world -famous home-made blue cheese dressing to T-Day dinner, then went home to sleep. And she had lots of help, it goes without saying... Angel*, of course, here, here and there throughout the night. And Petunnia here and there, but mostly on top of her poor (squashed) human. And Buddy who appears to sort of patrol between the occupied territories, getting vague pets and mumbles of, Wuv u, swee-har'... Cyrrie, also, puts in an appearance, although he's happier to rendezvous in the computer room or on the living room floor. AreToo shows up and snuggles when least expected. Lucy still makes the teleport from floor to bed, to be acknowledged and settle or not. Even Banshee shows for some bedtime. Only Cloud, alas, seems to avoid the bed if not the bedroom window. I have to seek her out for cuddles and purrs and eyes-washings (is that why she avoids the bed?) (or is it something to do with you-know-who*??).

Thanksgiving Blogging

Have I said lately how much I love these guys? In order of seniority: Banshee the Beautiful - who arrived at the grandhuman's porch, was advertized, and weeks later came to stay at 922... 'Toonya - aka PetunniaPetunnia - who was gestated here for the last week or two, born a couple of blocks away at our vetz, given away, and taken back at 9 weeks, or so... Lucy (not named by this human) (although I actually like her name now) who belonged to the family next door until - well, it's complicated. Buddy - stalked and finally captured in the Marygrove parking lot! Lost for 10 (11?) days the following Summer - oh, his human luvz him so much! (But what else is new?) And then there are the "kittens" - Cloud and Cyrano/Cyrrie - thank you Jen - and Angel and AreToo - thank you again, Jen... Oh, they are all so incredibly beautiful and sweet. My heart is very happy.

Blankies Blogging

Or
Dratitude!
The new blankies arrived yesterday - the "high tech" one - i.e., it has a cord - needs a "high tech" outlet! Oy, I'm old, my house is older! So I have to figure this out... And then there's the "impulse buy" - which is so tiny that only Cloud will fit, if I can persuade her to.... (So far, catnip hasn't done it.)

Thanksgiving Eve

Exhausted human is thankful for 4 days in a row off! Cats and "kittens" are grateful for early FF, with the high probability of more to come. Extra blogging and pics may very well happen. Happy T Day, all (turkey or tofu)...

Like Trying To Catch A Shadow

Banshee the Beautiful had a bad morning, asthma-wise, and so I decided to get ready as quickly as possible, catch her and take her in for a shot before I had to go to work. First I brought the carrier in from the vestibule and ignored it. Then it was get dressed, comb my hair, etc. And then it was ever-so-nonchalantly sidle up to the gacky girl and... grab her! Hah. As if. Everytime I'd get within a few feet, she'd melt away like, like, like something that melts away. If she was under the Morris chair, I'd kneel down in front while she was backing out the back. She'd pause by the piano just long enough to get my hopes up, and then dodge under the dining room table. We went several times abound the loop that is living room, dining room, kitchen and hallway. In the end she slipped down the stairs to the basement and I knew I was defeated. For today.

Recycling

Or
Cyrrie and the Bag of Bags
Cyrano has been known to help himself to stuff - especially stuff in plastic grocery bags left hanging from the backs of dining room chairs... Are there leftovers, perhaps? A pork chop? Half a sandwich?? A brownie or cookie??? And he'll go right through the bottom of the bag to get to his goal. Mostly the human is now careful to leave stuff there anymore - not even for a minute or two. However the other night she left a bag full of used grocery bags which the grandhuman had contributed to the cause... Imagine her surprise when she realized someone had bitten right through the outer bad and pulled out some of the inner ones. Alas for Cyrrie, there was no prize this time.

Lucky Blogging

Human - who has so much in common with cats and "kittens" - could really use something like the ability to land on her feet - as opposed to whiskers (all), zits ('Toonya), eyes (the sainted Strega and now Petunnia), asthma (Banshee), "plump" (Lucy, etc.) and I'm sure I'm forgetting lotz... Tonight I went down most of a flight of marble stairs, and still am not sure how it happened. I'd been in an outrageously hot environment almost all day, and I left early saying I was feeling faint - but I can't remember what actually happened. I am so not good on stairs - for so many reasons - that I always cling to the railing: this time I found myself going down with no sense of having slipped or similar. I know I hit my head, both legs and one arm - I am amazed that I walked away from it! So good to be home! (Cue the tiny violins, pls.)

High-Tech Blankies

We got a round heated pad (blue) and a low-tech/non-tech warmer that had the cutest cat in the illustration! (I am such a sucker for cute kitty "porn"...)

AM Blogging

Usually in the morning it's me and the Angel - everyone else is snoozing, and Angel is just taggin' along with his human. This morning, it was everybody else awake/aware, and no Angel. As the morning went on I got more and more nervous. Finally I was shouting - Angel! Angel! And Angel showed (knows his name, how brilliant). And then - out of nowhere - came the... scuffle? spat? - AreToo jumped his bro and it wasn't good or sweet or even close. Much clapping ensued and almost wasn't sufficient. WTH? Children! All was well eventually, but I'm still not sure what all was going down.... (All is well tonight, thank goodness.)

Rashomonish Blogging

Their point of view: She was gone all day and part of the night - then she comes in and turns on the - shudder - vacuum...

Her point of view: The kitchen was wall-to-wall crunchies! They'd nuked the extra big bowl. (And possibly a lesser bowl as well.) Of course I had to vacuum....

Where Is Cloud?

Yesterday morning I did not glimpse Cloud even once before it was time to go to work (not by the heat vent, not under the table, etc.). Last night when I got home she was the last one to appear (3 or 4 min) and I was quite on the brink of an anxiety attack. This morning she was awol again, and I was looking everywhere. Giving up on Cloud, I knelt by the Morris chair to force my attentions on the snoozy Buddy, and while I was petting and sweet-talking and so forth I became aware of a small furry something underneath the chair. With the throw hanging down, she had a warm little cave all to herself! When I reached in to pet her she caught my hand, and I had to wait until she'd finished kissing fingertips to break free...

Hi, All Blogging

1) Sandy - You and the CA fires are never far from my thoughts - I went out into a blizzard Monday night and wished I could swap our snowflakes for your ashes...
2) ThePoliticalCat - I know I've fallen way down on the job - mark it up to exhaustion, neurosis/es and something like guilt - the guys have been so sweet to me lately it sounded like bragging when I started to blog about them - but I'll come clean, I promise.
3) Camera batteries have failed me, right on time - I had a pic of the new window's roof, complete with ice, snow and fallen leaves...
4) Advice solicited: One thing leads to another, right? So I finally realized that the beautiful new garden window is a bit chilly - not drafty - but cool... (AreToo likes it best, well insulated Droid that he is.) So I'm going to have to get some extra-comfy blankies - maybe even something high techish. Here's what I'm looking at - any suggestions? http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/pet_supplies.cfm?c=3261+1883+19599
(Why the heck can't I make it a link?? Drat, drat, drat!)

Beany Baby Blogging

I'd put the beany babies away when the windows were being worked on, and this mornng was putting them back on the dresser. Without even thinking about it I said, Be sweet, be good, as I left the room...

Human Abuse, Cont.

In the middle of the night, while Angel was luvvin' on me, I felt one claw nick my lip but didn't think too much of it. This morning my lip was both bloody and swollen. With the blood washed away, it's still puffy, like somebody bopped me one. Oh, Angel...

New "Garden" Window

It took me by surprise that I had to have the window "finished", i.e., "sealed" - one way or another - within 72 hours or there would be no warrantee on it. Hence the towels. Tomorrow morning someone is coming to polyurethane the wood. After that maybe we'll find a pillow for it. I think it's going to be nice - with a stepstool of some sort for the older ones, of course. I'm already planning Birdfeeder 2.0...
