Why is my water-spilling bowl in the sink when it's supposed to be in the bathtub? Posted by Picasa

One Lap, Two Cats

Evidently you cannot spend quality time with two cats simultaneously... This morning, as is her wont, the human had her shower and took her coffee back to bed. As is her wont, Lucy joined the human, sitting on her lap, purring and kneading her bathrobe. Then the script was rewritten by Petunnia, who jumped up on the bed, and, sweet and good, settled in beside the human, also purring and kneading. Well, the human has two hands, afterall, and can pet two cats at the same time, right? But as she did so, Lucy's purrs gradually stalled out, and soon she departed. Petunnia immediately took her place, purring, kneading, hand-holding, washing/kissing and talking (about what?).

(Note: Even as I [try] to type this, Lucy is on my lap.)

Counting Cats

can be almost as hard as herding cats...

Tonight the poor tired human comes home after a long long day at work and time w/ family: There, in the living room, are two kittens, which is good, and Buddy and Lucy, the two junior cats, also good, but where are the senior cats? After several circuits of the first floor, the human sees Banshee - on the back of the couch, looking out the window. When the poor human says, Oh, sweetheart, there you are, Banshee runs away and starts to gack. Right. Pause. Fume. Worry. But, then, where is Petunnia-Petunnia?? Not on the bed, not on the favored chair in the computer room, not under the table... Just on the brink of panic, the poor poor tired tired human sees Petunnia - on the table... Well. Well. Well... Sigh. Oh, give her a kiss - all's well, etc.

Kittened Again

Early early this morning, so early that it still counted as night, Cyrrie went for a walk around the bed: When he dug into the lace curtains, the tired human could only wave a tired hand and tiredly go, No, no... no.... When he tight-walked across the headboard, she ignored him and hoped he's go away. Finally he got himself onto the bedside table, where, with reason, kittens are never ever allowed to go. The inventory of stuff that had to be picked up was, well, lengthly (Damn, damn, damn, damn, etc.).

Who, Us?

This morning: Lucy starts to get up on the bed, but Petunnia is already there, playing excellent defense. Lucy flees. Not satisfied, Petunnia pursues, only to be ambushed by Lucy in the living room. By the time the human gets there (Be sweet, be good!) it is all over. Petunnia is totally engrossed in washing, Lucy is sitting prim and proper on the couch. (Buddy is asleep, and, as always, Banshee and the kits decline to comment...)

Grossed Out!

It finally happened, after x-plus years of embeddedness w/ cats... Yesterday afternoon, Banshee moved into a spot of sunlight on the living room carpet, and rubbed her right paw back and forth. Not suprisingly (no vacuuming in 3 - 4ish weeks) she came up with a pawful of cat fur, which she promptly ate. The human is going, No, no sweetheart, don't do that, that's bad for you, but, because this is Banshee, she's afraid to intervene too stridently for fear of triggering an asthma attack. So, while the human moans and begs, Banshee proceeds to gobble up several more pawfuls of fur and dust and Lord-only-knows what else. Truly gack! Hairball meds, here we come!

Petunnia Mysteriously Wounded!

Petunnia had just jumped into the human's lap. As she sat there purring and kneading, the human realized that a large drop of bright red blood was forming on her ear, which had been sliced right open on one side. How could this have happened?? There was no commotion heard, no bad language, no running, no nothing. Human is very upset, Petunnia is like blase, blase, blase...

Cyrrie in anti-transdimensional mode... Posted by Picasa

Cloud on the brink of trans-dimensionalism Posted by Picasa

We Made It Up

When it thundered and thundered in the middle of the night, Petunnia took charge: sitting (heavily) on her human, clamping her down with claws, Petunnia licked/washed/kissed for a very long time - and - it worked! The thunder finally finally stopped!!

No Compromise

Typically, on the bed, there is a pile of pillows (next to the human's pillow) where Petunnia likes to sit and look down on her domain. Lately, though, it has been replaced with an even higher pile of newspapers, magazines and books, so the sickly human never has to reach very far for something to read. Well, Petunnia still tries to sit on it, which always means books, etc., tumbling down on the human. So today, after piling it all up into an especially tidy and above all high pile, the human tries to discourage Petunnia from jumping up on it. She actually puts her arm in between the pile and Petunnia. Twice. Then she invites Petunnia to sit on her lap instead, something Petunnia is usually quick to do. Eventually Petunnia turns away from the pile of books, but rather than sit on the human's lap, she goes to the bottom of the bed, to the corner farthest from the human, radiating displeasure. Later of course, the pile gets knocked down...

Insight?

When the human inadvertantly winkled Petunnia just now, she immediately realized that Petunnia's "spot" was was all warmed and cozy...

Winkling

It's how Cyrrie gets another cat out of whatever spot he currently wants to be in: First he just stands over them, studying the situation, for quite a long time. Eventually he beings to lay down, not exactly on them, but so close as to make no difference. Amazingly, most of the time, instead of smacking him, the cat in prior posession of the chair, bed-spot, couch-spot, whatever, just gives up and leaves... Then Cyrrie takes posession, as if it's the most natural thing in the world. Even Petunnia capitulates (although I'm not so sure about Cloud).

Isn't it amazing how quickly they colonize new ecological niches? Posted by Picasa

Can you count the (visible and invisible) ones being sweet and good? Posted by Picasa

A Terrible Truth

Alas! However utterly delightful sweet and good cats - and kittens - are to be around, when it comes right down to it, they are boring to try to blog about... What happened today?
  • Well, Petunnia was not bossy or crabby.
  • Buddy did not dis Petunnia.
  • Cyrano did not shamefully misbehave in matters of treats or Fancy Feast.
  • Cloud did not smack her brother upside the head (well, only once) for no obvious reason.
  • Lucy, well, Lucy is Lucy, and this mostly does not apply to her.
  • Banshee did gack, but that doesn't really count...

Guys, since your human is feeling better and will be going back to work tomrrow, feel free to: nuke things, use bad language, etc., all the while, of course, being sweet and good...!

Human Still Sickly

In fact, she gacks even worse than Banshee...
Human here: Last night, while gacking, I remembered there was an old half bottle of cough syrup w/ codeine somewhere - in the dark, and w/ out contact lenses, I found a bottle the same shape and color, and was just about to swig when something made me look twice. The name on the bottle was Banshee. In retrospect, I wonder if it might not have helped!
