It Was A Joke!

Panicky human reflects on a family tradition: Putting the squich on someone/something. It is something that, if you could do it, you wouldn't, because it would be wrong. But since you can't, you have to be careful not to do it by accident!

Had An Offer For A Kitten

Unfortunately it came from a little girl who saw the poster in the library. I photocopied the poster, gave her my phone numbers, and said, Have your mother call me. Hopes not up...

Coffee Crisis

Well, down-grade that to "coffee commotion"... All morning Angel had been stalking the human's coffee: No, no! she would say, moving the coffee or moving the kitten, which ever seemed more effective at the time. Coffee is not for babies, it would stunt your growth! Then, in a moment of human inattention, Angel succeeded. Hearing... something, the human turned just in time to see Angel's nose come wildly out of the coffee cup, and then Angel ran off, clearly upset. Since the coffee was no longer hot, Angel had not burned his nose - thank goodness - but it seems he didn't exactly like the coffee, either. Human comforted Angel, but couldn't not say, I told you so...

Waking Up

Quite early this morning, there was a thump outside (as opposed to the bedroom, which I would have slept right through). Opening my eyes, I was suprised to see Cyrano, all snuggled up to me (instead of one of the more usual suspects). It was a very sweet sight, one I was glad to wake up for... (Banshee and Cloud were on the back of the couch.)

Going Too Far

For Cyrrie, it's (sort of) ok when the kittens nose under him and nibble his FancyFeast, but when AreToo goes to rustle his dry roasted peanut-half, well! Smack, and pin - and hold that kitten down until the peanut is completely gone...
For Lucy, luxuriating on the sunlit couch, it's when AreToo climbs up on the human's lap (she's sitting across the room, on the platform rocker, reading). Poor little AreToo is quickly deposited on the Morris chair, so that the human can cuddle Lucy, who is, after all, still an invalid....

Multiple Musings

Spending a whole day at home means having lots of stuff to blog about...

Early this morning, another kitten-proofing failure: As the human snoozed with kittens, she became aware of them playing on the floor with something... not soft sounding. Hmmm.... A plastic ball, perhaps? Even though instinct said get up and look, she tried to snooze instead. Eventually she found their latest toy - a vintage earing, costume jewelry, but nice stones with a very old screw back - fortunately none the worse for the wear.....

Later, during an outing, Cyrrie installed himself on the bed and went to sleep. When the human returned the kittens to the bedroom, she decided not to wake him. Sometime later, looking in, there were all three, kittens snuggled up to Cyrrie, who woke up then and began washing little Angel......

On their next outing the kittens wound down of their own accord, something that has never happened before. They just rendezvoused in the Morris chair, curled up, and nodded off. It didn't last very long, mind, or at least not long enough, so eventually the human consigned them to the bedroom once again, where they had nothing better to do than snooze.......

Semantics

Human tries to impress on kittens the difference between "Rock on!" and being rocked on... (Needless to say, they are not impressed.)

No Sneezing!

The kittens are still sneezing - not constantly, but at least several times a day, and although the doctor said not to worry about it, well, the human does, a little... So, several times a day, you can hear her go, No sneezing! Or, Sneezing not allowed! Yesterday, out in the real world, with other humans, someone sneezed. It was all she could do to convert No sneezing! into God bless you...

Light Bulbs

Everytime the kittens knock over a lamp, even though the light bulb doesn't break, the filament inside usually does; they've gone through like 8 or 9 so far, and the human needs to lay in a new supply...

Updates

Lucy: Still purring super-enthusiastically; good about taking her meds; little post anesthesia cough has gone away...
Banshee: Got her shot yesterday when we went to get Lucy - she came into the bathroom while the human was putting on makeup, and the human just closed the door on her, ha!
Kittens: Posted on PetFinder with good pics and life stories... In the meantime, they continue to expand their territory - just this morning the human gave up trying to keep them out of the basement (the attic is still off-limits, though, so of course they're dying to get back up).
Cyrrie: Was very cute and sweet this morning when Angel jumped on the couch and snuggled up with him.
Cloud: Relatively laid back last night and this morning...
Petunnia: Explored the bedroom this morning while the kittens were outing it....
Buddy: Likes playing with the kittens, but only one at a time.....

Absolutely Not!

Not content with the first floor, Lucy now wants to go upstairs. She is a little clumsy, however, and still has that big pupil drug look (she's on pain meds), so the human is standing firm...

Doors

The human decided arbitrarily that Lucy should be quiet for a while. So she put her in the computer room, with FancyFeast and all the other necessities... Lucy was not pleased (she ate the FF, of course). And so, as a compromise, the human has given Lucy the first floor, with kittens and Cyrrie locked in the bedroom, Banshee, Buddy and Cloud upstairs, and only Petunnia staying sedate on the couch. Human watches with concern as Lucy does her inspection thing, then settles in the hallway where she can see into the kitchen and the livingroom, as if she has to keep an eye out for - something - even with the doors behind her safely closed.

Home

Lucy's home, and she's purring very loudly, and, typically, being too excited for her human to be able to hug her properly.

Two Teeth Pulled!

And she has to stay over night!!

Dentistry

By now Lucy should have had her tooth pulled and be recovering from the anesthetic... Her nervous human misses her very much - even though she's only a few blocks away - and can't wait to ply her with FancyFeast, fresh catnip and sweet talk...!

A Worst Nightmare Worse Than...

The Last Worst Nightmare: I scheduled Lucy's dentistry for my day off - tomorrow - then worked a 12 hour day today, meaning I did not get home in time to a) feed her and b) take all the food up after 7:00 pm... So Lucy is ticked, and who knows what they'll say tomorrow morning at the vetz??

Trusting Your Instinct

When Buddy (relatively big) and Angel (still quite small) played/wrestled this morning, it looked quite ferocious - but the human just held her breath, and they both seemed to have a great time...

Reverse Psychology?

The human had an insight today, about quality time, and so she is not just napping with the kittens, not just giving them outings, but spending time with them alone, in the bedroom... She is talking things over with them, and, by proxy, with their guardian angels - about how much better for them it would be if they had their own exclusive human/s. Then she looks around! OMG!! Oh no!!! The hydroponic Chinese evergreen - at least 16 years old - is gone! AreToo is chewing on the vintage Raggedy Andy.... And we will never say what happened to the contemporary Raggedy Ann (not peed/pooped/puked on, thank you very much). And then there is the antique whatnot tray overturned, and the jewelry case spilled with the 6 sharp antique hatpins... (And she thought she had kitten-proofed several times over!) Who would want kittens like these?? Even though they are almost guaranteed now to be healthy!!!!!

Sticker Shock

How much will it cost to have Lucy's bad tooth pulled?

As An Adjective

Today I read a descriptive passage including the phrase "mackerel sky" - thanks to kittens, I now know that means irregularly striped or swirled (as opposed to fishy)...

New Role For Cyrano

Baby sitter! When the kittens seem bored and/or lonely, and the human can't give them an outing at just that moment, she now throws in Cyrrie to hang with them... (Please note: We are absolutely positive that at 6 months they will test negative! They are healthy, happy, loving, funny, adorable, etc., etc., etc., and we are still looking for a good home - or homes - for them!)

How Cute Are They?

Yesterday, when the kittens were taken away to have their blood drawn, Lucy and the human could still hear the technicians. It is not an exaggeration to say they were verbally drooling...

Good Morning, Kittens

Yesterday the kittens spent sleeping off their first vaccine; today they seem fine, i.e., enjoying their outing and getting into all sorts of mischief...

Complicated Stuff

Lucy and kittens go to the vetz today:

Lucy gets nasty matts cut off, kittens get tested for FIV - probably a false positive, but...

But.

V0te taken:

Cats and kittens agree, we stand by our little guys! No matter what....
