Kitten's First (Official ) Halloween

(Human had to work last year...) Cyrrie says: We'd go trick or treating if they gave Fancy Feast instead of candy...

House Cleaning

Today the human swept under the bed. Found: app 20 official and unofficial cat toys, and one newspaper - dated June 7, 2005. All we can say is: Thank goodness it wasn't June 7, 2004... (Or worse!)

Not So Good

After Banshee had her meds today, she went into the longest attack I've seen... Later, when she was safely asleep, I turned the furnace on for the first time this season; with in a few minutes she was gacking, but, thank God, it didn't last too long. She's been breathing ok for several hours now, eating well, and, forgivingly, hanging w/ human.... To my surprise, Cloud followed all of this closely, clearly knowing that something was very very wrong with Banshee, but also with the very worried human.

Banshee Behavior Modification Program

Ok, so: The human comes home from work, and totally ignores Banshee. And, mind you, everyone else. And there is an expectation of Fancy Feast in the air. Eventually Banshee shows up in the kitchen, and starts to munch some crunchies. The human ignores her, right up until she captures her! The medicine goes down, mostly, and Banshee drools, while the human mops her up... But then the human gives her "treats" - we can't remember the brand, right now - and Banshee likes the treats! And getting the medicine doesn't trigger an attact.... Fancy Feast for all to follow!!

Banshee Does Better

About 1:00 am, the human managed to nab Bansh, and almost all of the medicine went down / stayed down... Of course, that threw the every 12 hours schedule off, since the human had to go to work this morning. But still. Oh, and she only had a tiny gack attack!

Watering The House Plants

When the human misses the pot and splashes the bookcase, Cloud gives her extra points...

Banshee Backslides

Last night she totally refused to cooperate (i.e., would not get caught); this morning she totally refused to swallow (think: mess), then had an attack... We give her the weekend to reform - otherwise, it's going to be back to the dreaded vetz!!! (Banshee, are you listening??)

Juggling

Before this, Cyrrie's idea of multi-tasking was trying to eat from 922 bowls simultaneously. This morning, however, he managed to play with the green piny thing while at the same time chasing a red mouse around... Little Cloud said, Awesome! Even though Cyrrie had just swiped her red mouse...

Banshee & Kittens

Good news: This morning Banshee took her medicine, swallowed most of it, and, thank goodness, did not have a gacking attack... She did, however, have 2 obnoxious kittens right in her face - they thought she was being given a treat!

I can't remember if I posted this pic before or not, but I love that little open eye... Posted by Picasa

How Is Banshee?

Well, hard to say. On the one hand, 2 out of her last 3 attacks were caused by the trauma of taking the medication (the 3rd was caused by the trauma of a bratty kitten), but it stills seems better than Sunday am, when she had 6 attacks in a row...
Also: the kittens were wildly indignant when they perceived Banshee to be getting extra Fancy Feast - this was not, in fact, the case. Banshee just didn't eat hers when the others did.... Try explaining that to indignant kittens.....

Banshee Gacking Update

There's something called feline allergy lung disease, and Banshee may have it, or she may have a more run of the mill sort of asthma... In either case, the treatment will be the same. It might go away; it might come and go; she might have to stay on medication...
Pet-owners: If you have a digital camera with video, record your pet's symptoms! It really helped our veterinarian with her diagnosis....

Gacking With Kittens

Banshee is still gacking, so we are going back to the vetz tomorrow. In the meantime, the human puts the hairball stuff on Banshee's paw, and then fends off the kittens until Banshee finishes cleaning her paw - the kittens want to clean it for her...

Kittenist Vandals Strike Under Cover Of Darkness

It had been a while since the poor human awoke to the terrifying sound of things going crash in the night. She headed for the bathroom and a contact lens, but stopped - between her and the sink she could just make out the wreckage: a heavy Mexican wine glass that held odds and ends had been ruthlessly pulled from the window sill... Nearly blind, the human gathered up big chunks of blue and white glass, then got a broom, then the vacuum cleaner - it's important to be thorough with all those little paws running barefoot. The good news: the human threw away old makeup brushes she hadn't used for years. The bad news: she found her missing nail file, but only after she'd already bought a new one...

Scheduling Conflict

Is it right that the human gets to usurp the bathtub? Dedicated water-spillers need time to practice their art/s...

Moratorium On Squirrel Baiting

The human has been putting stuff on a window sill to bribe Cloud's squirrel to hang with her... Yesterday, Cloud was exceptionally glued to the window - but there was no squirrel! No bird, either. The human, looking over Cloud's shoulder, could not figure out what was so riveting, and Cloud was too busy being riveted to explain. Finally, the human saw it: a mouse! Tiny-tiny, a soft shade of brown with more than a hint of invisible, feasting on a bonanza of bird seed and dried fruit... Oh dear. We do not want to entice any little mouse inside to a certain doom, so maybe we will have to stop bribing the squirrel.

Petunnia's Dilemma

A Bad Day

We all had a really bad day today:
  • The human had a bad day because she was worried about Banshee...
  • Banshee had a bad day because the human hauled her to the "vetz"...
  • The kittens had a bad day because, later, a justifiably crabby Banshee hissed at them...
  • Cyrrie had a bad day because Cloud, non-plussed when Banshee hissed, turned around and smacked her brother, deeply hooking his ear, to the extreme discomfiture of both...
  • Cloud had a bad day when the human cuddled Cyrrie, and the clipped Cloud's claws...
  • Cyrrie continued to have a bad day when Cloud, totally po'd, seriously went after him 3 times in 5 minutes...
  • Cloud continued to have a bad day when the human admonished her and mentioned the squirt bottle...
  • Petunnia and Lucy had a bad day, too, when the human clipped their claws in the interest of fairness...
  • Buddy had a bad day when Banshee first went to the "vetz" - he spent the next 6 hours under the bed...

The good part came when Cloud and Cyrrie made it up over a shared slice of pepperoni.

And everybody got some catnip - even the human... :)

They Are Not Always Graceful

When something (something undetectable by the human's limited senses) startles Cloud, she instantly whirls and makes a zero to light speed in nano-seconds dash down the hallway, only to run smack into the open closet door... It's a good thing she has a hard head! (Of course it goes without saying that the human should never have left the closet door open....)

The Fate Of All Toys

The piny branch thing, which began with 3 sub-branches and 3 other things - pinecones, maybe? - is now down to just the 3 sub-branches, but its mobility has not been impaired: it still at least daily makes it up the stairs from the basement. This morning the human noticed it / ignored it in the kitchen; by the time she got out of the shower, it had been magicked into the bedroom, where, of course, she stepped on it with her clean bare foot...

Kitten Version Of Oliver Twist

Human says, When it comes to Fancy Feast advocacy, Cyrrie is so active, forceful, articulate, eloquent, and above all... pitiful! that he should be getting a kickback from his fellow cats and kitten.
But then, Oh. Wait. He does get an FF kickback, doesn't he? One way or another...

Water Babies

Yesterday: The human cleaned the water fountain, and left it to air dry for definitely less than an hour. (It was at least 59 minutes and some seconds, say the kitz.) When she, the human, finally got around to re-assembling it and adding water, there was a little queue (Lucy, Cloud, Cyrano) and a distinct air of reproach - even though there were ample supplies of "new water, good water" available in the bathroom. The cheers when the water began to splash were... pitiful!

Today: Cyrrie is also a water-spiller! Prior to this, the human thought he was just a fan... But today she watched him do it, and he has a totally different technique than Cloud. Cyrrie wraps his arm around the base of the water container, grabs a corner and pulls! The container spins slightly, some water slops over the side, and then, just like Cloud, he follows it to the drain with the most wrapt expression...

We're Still Here

Human is extremely busy just now, but we are carrying on:

  • Bringing the plastic piny-thing up the stairs;
  • Nibbling on the human as opportunities occur;
  • Consorting with squirrels on occasion;
  • Sleeping;
  • Nagging for more frequent applications of Fancy Feast;
  • Etc.

And we're open to suggestions!
