It Is To Laugh
Human here: Someone asked me if I would have a Christmas tree this year... [Hysterical laughter goes on and on...]
This blog is the ongoing story of nine-hundred and twenty-two cats, including kittens. We consider on a near daily basis the poetics of cat sensibility - the wit, brilliance, elegance and magic of catdom. We try to ignore hairballs and their sound effects.

I have had a tree only twice in the time we have had Mak and Nani... they have turned back into kittens recently so I guess its... I think not
As I unpack boxes at the new flat, I keep running across Christmas ornaments from my childhood. A tiny wooden toy bench from Germany. The large shiny red bauble with my name written in sparkly white letters. A Precious Moments girl, bundled in furs and holding a tiny bluebird.
I must have been stashing these away one by one for years, waiting for the day when I would have the time & money & inclination to get a tree of my own.
Well, now I'm ready. I have the spot all picked out. I know I'd get one of those baby trees that can be planted later. I've got my ornaments all dusted off, and I know where I'd buy a tree stand. Maybe I could even sew a little tree skirt with some purple velvet and silver stars!
Must kittens and trees always be at such odds? Isn't peaceful coexistence at least a possibility?
This is me not able to give up on the idea yet.
Maybe this afternoon I'll have a little chat with M & K about the importance of ornament safety...???
In fact, for many years my cats and kittens mostly co-existed with my Christmas trees... Tigger would break exactly 2 ornaments every year, but that was her limit, and you learned to put the ugly ones on the bottom. So through 3 kittens and numerous adult adoptions, we kept our tree tradition going - and I'm the sort who leaves her "live" tree up until Valentine's Day... However, the Christmas before last, without a kitten in the house, the tree went over in the middle of the night, and when the lunatics Cloud and Cyrrie moved in next year, well. And now with the equally lunatic but larger and heavier boyz, um, I think not. But I encourage you to give it a try! There are few things lovelier than sitting in the dark with a glowing Christmas tree, and I am sure Kai and Meera are GOOD kittens...!
