Being Extra-Sweet

Earlier today, the human was at the dining room table while Cloud was on it. To the human's suprise, Cloud eased up to her and touched noses! Just like she did the other day with Petunnia!! It was a way cool compliment!!!

Lamp Needed

The other night the bedroom lamp went all poof! and sparks! when I tried to turn it on. Three new light bulbs later, it occurred to me that maybe the lamp itself was bad (a good dozen kittenings came to mind). Because it's absolutely essential to be able to read in the middle of the night, I took a lamp from the living room, which of course leaves the living room half dark now. The question is, how to replace it? Pier One? TJ Maxx? Yard sales? Or is this an excuse to hit the antique shops? How hard will it be to find - attractive plus kitten-proof??

Were They Joking?

"Moderately restricted activity for 3 days" - right. This mornng AreToo climbed to the top of the bedroom curtains, let go and bounced on the bed like it was a trampoline...

Rites Of Passage

Yesterday was the little guys' big day - they got their certificates of neuter, and they passed their FIV tests - negative at last. They came home wobbly and restless, and didn't settle down until way after midnight, when they finally snuggled up to their human and snoozed...

Oh, Cloud!

Cloud is actually eating out of the cool new bowls which match our kitchen and were on sale, and which all cats and kittens have been boycotting for days...!

Antigravity AreToo

The other kittens had furniture for toys - little Cloud attacking the platform rocker, the couch, was hilarious. These kittens have the whole house for a toy - they attack doorways, jumping as high as they can in the process. AreToo jumps higher than Angel, and floats a second or two longer as well...

Sweet Moment

This morning Petunnia was sitting in the doorway between the kitchen and the hall when Cloud came down the hall from the bedroom. Instead of heading on past into the living room, she stopped, and, in slow motion, moved toward Toonya. The human froze, since neither one is exactly predictable (or, rather, they are both too predictable). Cloud got closer and closer, their little noses touched for a moment, and then Cloud went on to the living room. One little prima donna to another...

Highly Recommended

Davis, Patti. Two Cats and the Woman They Own Or Lessons I Learned From My Cats. San Fransisco: Chronicle Books, 2005.

Where Were They?

In the middle of the night, the human woke up.. catless! There were no cats - or kittens - on the bed. Getting up, there were no cats in the living room, where there are usually at least three. Circling back, there were no cats in the bathtub... Back again, there was no one in the window, no one in the computer room, no one eating or drinking in the kitchen, no one on the dining room table, no one under the dining room table... It was seriously mysterious! The human considered the checking out the basement, but she was sleepy, barefoot and virtually blind, so instead she went back to bed. But where were they? And whether it was the basement or - more probably - another dimension, what were they all doing?? (She asked them in the morning, but nobody was saying.)

She Thinks Not

The human is totally on-board with the idea of catnip perfume, but FancyFeast? When a just-opened can sprays her bare arm (and the skirt of her good dress) with atomized FF juice, she's like, Yuck...

On The Couch

And back on the couch, ad infinitum... The human was trying to "make" the couch, you see. We now have 6 layers of blankies on it, in what is probably a futile attempt to protect it from you-know-whose you-know-whats. So first there was the climbing on and hugging of the blankies on the floor, and the hanging from the blankies that the human was trying to shake loose and put back in carefully fitted layers. Then there were the layers - think kitten sandwich, with wrastling! and no matter how many kittens were removed, more appeared, an endless supply....

Clox

This morning - about 8:04 - the toes were pounced again - that would have been Angel. I opened my eyes, and there was AreToo on the ceiling - no - only at the top of the lace curtains - he let go when I screamed and bounced on the bed and looked at me with a typical AreToo What?? And then the toes got pounced again... All I had wanted was to sleep until 8:30, and hit the snooze button once, but it was not to be.

Anxiety

I had to go to work today without a final count of cats and kittens - Angel was mia, and even though I had spent most of the morning and part of the afternoon with him, it still made me nervous to leave without that final eye-balling... Of course, when I got home, there he was, to be picked up, hugged, kissed, scolded and fancy-feasted, but, you know, I just need to vent...

Helpful Again

Once again, faithful little AreToo helps his human with her end-of-week/start-of-week chores: As she cleans out the refridgerator, he tries to jump in; as she puts some crystal away in the china cabinet, he tries to jump in; as she moves wet towels from the washing machine to the dryer, he tries to jump in! Whatever would she do without him??

The New Toy

The human says, It's adorable! A two-tone plush green cricket!! With a micro-chip chirp!!! And it was expensive!!!! Cats - and kittens - and even more kittens - say, Boooooooring!!!!!

Lost In Translation

Petunnia is on the bed, being petted by the human who has temporarily abandoned her attempt to read. Buddy jumps up, at the foot of the bed, probably 3.5 feet away from the Princess. Petunnia says... something - it actually sounds rather like meow, soft and high-pitched - not aggressive seeming at all - but when she says it again, Buddy jumps down off the bed and departs the bedroom altogether....

This magnificently stern profile looks absolutely nothing like the real Cloud... Posted by Picasa

Clearly Doesn't Get It

I was talking to an old friend, explaining how I ended up with more kittens - the test that should not have been given to the too young kittens - the presumably false positives - their ineligibility to go to the shelter, etc. When I mentioned that soon they'd be able to be retested, my friend said, Oh, so you could give them to the shelter then...

Human Apologizes

Sorry, my loves... When I couldn't find my car keys this morning - after looking and looking and looking and looking! - it crossed my mind that just maybe paws were involved in their disappearance from the dining room table top. However, in the end it turned out that they hadn't disappeared from the table top, so cats and kittens (especially kittens) are due an apology!

Catching Up!

Where to start?

AreToo wrastling Buddy! Nervous human watched apprehensively as they went through all the moves - the stares, the twitches, the pounce, throat-biting and stomach-kicking - but since there was no growling or anything - in the end they convinced her they really were just having a good time! (And moving way too fast to photograph!!)

Then there was Petunnia sitting on the edge of the bathtub, staring into the murky green space between the curtain and the liner. When the human peeks, too, 2 kitten faces stare back at her. Adorable! (When she gets the camera, everybody runs away!!)

Other stuff, including pics, to follow.....

Kittens In A Window

Cat Burglary Not Allowed

This morning, right before the human went to work, she lifted Petunnia out of the window well - Sorry, Sweetheart, but if we leave the window open, someone might come in and steal you...

Kitten In A Pie Safe

Plant Abuse Alert

It was not in the least bit subtle - in fact, the crash was felt through the floor... Upon investigation, the human found, in the dining room, the new prayer plant, newly potted only yesterday! - upside down in an explosion of its own damp potting soil.... And there, utterly unrepentant, was..... a kitten! Now, this is a household with a proud history of plant abuse - the sainted Strega - at great personal risk - once nuked a magnificent pothos so thriving it had grown tendrils right through the curtains!! And then there was PetunniaPetunnia...... And no slouches, either, Cloud and Cyrrie. But, less than 36 hours??? I mean, really really really.......

High Drama

Tonight, when the human got home, she counted cats while performing various and sundry important tasks: Angel, Cloud, Buddy - check - put the mail down - check - Cyrrie, check - spot empty bowls, fill them - check - Lucy's in the hallway - check - Petunnia's in the computer room - check - circle back to the kitchen, and there's Bansh, drinking - check - but where is AreToo? Circle back to the vestibule, and there, in the dark, howling (but sotto voce) was the missing baby. When the door was opened - no, wait, mind you, all of this took 8 - 10 min! Max!! When the door was opened, AreToo raced to the bathroom, jumped into the litter box, and very melodramatically peed. Right. Not buying it, said the cynical human!!!

Little helper! (Taking a break...) Posted by Picasa

Therapy Blogging, cont.

This afternoon, "we" cleaned the basement - that is to say, the human had a lot of help from AreToo. With the laundry, he perched on the edge of the laundry tub and watched the rinse water cycle away (human extremely nervous, but). When the human cleaned the litter boxes, he followed her into every one, even when there was nothing left for him to contribute but footprints! And when she vacummed, he utterly refused to run away!! What is wrong with this kitten???

Holiday Therapy Blogging

Morning spent repotting various and sundry plants (some kittened, some "humaned"): Kittens complain, How come she gets to play in the dirt??

Squeeeee...!

This morning the kittens were playing with a new orange mouse, and Cyrrie was watching them, looking, at least to his human, a little sad... So she went to the bag of newly purchased but not yet distributed toys (there was a sale), and got out a bright green... thing: sort of like a long haired rat with furry tail. A little while later there was this sound. So the human investigated. Not Banshee gacking, not Cloud chirping, not Buddy teasing Petunnia.... Hmm. But Cyrrie was playing with the green thing. It turns out it's a squeaky toy! If you pinch it sideways, it squeeeees!!

Human says, Sigh - Ya're cute, aren't you...? Posted by Picasa

This Afternoon

At the vetz with the kittenz - and it was just amazing how many of the staff remembered the little guys' first day there (tiny, tiny, tiny) and then Angel's next day there (tiny plus sick, sick, sick)... And how they ooohed and aaawed about how cute they still are!! (Totally unbiased human agrees....)

Cloud Calms Down

Earlier this morning she was mad - rigid and chirping style mad - and nothing - not pets - not sweet talk - nothing helped, until the human offered her a finger tip to nibble.. And it worked!

Yet Another Kittening

Since they couldn't mess (carefully chosen word) with the shrimp plant anymore, this morning the kittens nuked the orchid. (Not to worry, it will be repotted.) Kittens say, We can't decide which is more fun, when she comes in after we've had hours to play in the dirt, or when she hears the crash and comes running... (Either way, it ends in vacuuming, which we think is just wrong.)
