This blog is the ongoing story of nine-hundred and twenty-two cats, including kittens. We consider on a near daily basis the poetics of cat sensibility - the wit, brilliance, elegance and magic of catdom. We try to ignore hairballs and their sound effects.

Oh, poor little thing! Luckily, fur, given good nutrition (which I know you're giving), soon grows back. The cold could not have helped.
Your encouragement has got me thinking - maybe there's something else I might put out for the poor little dear... Suet? PB?? Ideas appreciated!
Someone who's kept squirrels recommends blanched or roasted (but never raw) unsalted peanuts and sunflower seeds, filberts or hazelnuts in the shell, and yes, shortening can be mixed with cornmeal and dried fruit and nuts to make a tasty and fatty squirrel treat. I don't know if peanut butter is made from raw or roasted peanuts, but peanuts are not highly recommended as squirrel food. Still, I imagine it's better than being a hairless squirrel.
