Blogging While I Can Blogging

A little before 6 this evening I set out toward my Mom's - the plan was to stop at the little corner grocery story and get her eggs, then swing back to her house to deliver the eggs and take out the garbage. It had been hot and windy all afternoon, but at that moment more than 1/2 of the sky had gone very dark, and the first thing I did in the car was to hunt around for some weather info. As I drove the 2 blocks to the main drag, it got darker and darker and windier and windier, and thick bolts of lightning could be seen in the distance. Even before I heard all the watches and warnings stuff, I had decided - this was no time for eggs. Circling back toward Mom's there was debris in the air and either hail or big drops of rain. The stoplights were going crazy, like the tree branches. I actually enjoy thunderstorms, but this one, I admit, was spooking me. I got into her driveway, got the car door open with difficulty, got into the shelter of her storm door, and then fumbled for the right key. As the wind got wilder my fingers got clumsier, but it was Mom to the rescue, opening the door for me. We were both rather aghast at the wind and blinding, horizontal rain that surrounded the house. Then the sirens started up. The wind and the rain let up a bit, and then we could see people outside looking toward the intersection, where a firetruck was parked and lots of flares were being laid down. An across-the-street neighbor shouted to me, Did we have power? We did - despite a not-so-brief brown-out - but he, evidently, did not. Which made me sure that I did not, either. The outages always affect the north side of my street, and I have been through some doozies. Imagine my incredulous delight when I came home just now and not a single digital clock was even blinking... I asked the guys if they were scared, and they were all like, Who, us? (Although Banshee and Buddy have still not reported in from Dimension X...) Finally, as if all this weren't drama enough, I just smashed a bug in the hallway, and Angel is mournfully hovering over the still-in-place shoe....
