Awesome

I had put the somewhat-the-worse-for-wear fucsia (sp?) back out on the porch, and this morning I had my first ever humming bird visitor! Alas that neither cats nor "kittens" were present to enjoy it with me!

Hummingbirds are Nature's kisses for feel-bad days. One was buzzing my Afrcan basil this weekend, right by the dining room window.

I'm jealous! African basil sounds so exotic, and my poo run-of-the-mill basil did not thrive during the porching process... And you haz humming birdz, plural! Do your guys ever try to chase them?

Lizzy! I wish I could send you some African basil! It's very easy to grow, very hardy, and you should be able to get it at your local nursery. Bees, and, obviously, hummingbirds, love it (unfortunately so do the dratted spiders!).

In the event! African basil will survive thermonuclear destruction, I swear. I has hummingbirdz plural because I planted my whole garden with things they love, like buddleia and echium fastuosum. Which you can haz! Well, as long as you keep them pruned hard.

Madu used to make the attempt (he's quite the killer, I'm afraid), but the hummingbirds mock him. They laugh at him in public and speedily buzz by his very whiskers. They only do it to annoy and luckily Madu has graciously accepted defeat and pretends to ignore them (hard when they make a speedy dive towards your very head and buzz away with tiny snickering sounds). Bandicoot is much too sweet to attack other lifeforms but he does like to watch them. Zingiber, of course, is terrified of them. Gojira is too tiny to pose much of a threat, and too timid (a terrible bully at home but a complete mouse outdoors) and Gustav, thank TPTB, is too infirm.

As always, I am so delighted to hear your virtual voice that I chatter like a very gasbag. Apologies! I have missed you!
