Oh, Yay! I'm so glad you're home again... You've been very much in my thoughts (and, shallow though it sounds under the circumstances, I've missed your comments very much). And I'm glad you got a nice, big furry welcome-homing.... Try to stay cool! More later, L.

Well, they did all run away when I arrived. But they appear to have forgiven me now, and even Gustav is taking every opportunity to curl up as close to me as he can get without scaring himself.

I'm going to post a Droid Recipe soon. Just because. I did miss him so! And my little haven of peace that you have created here. You can't know how much I've missed your wit and wisdom and the beautiful photos of the babes.

And no, it's not shallow. Staying cool: icepacks on lap and head. 106F, the weatherman says, but do they really know or are they just faking it?

I kiss 922 furry heads.

One was just up the hill about three weeks ago, and the Vegetation Management people dropped in unexpectedly a few days later and ticketed everybody. The various inhabited hills are pretty denuded now, except for big trees and the drought-resistant native shrubs. Anything over 3-4" in the grass department is gone, and people have taken to sneaking bags of "green waste" into their neighbours' green garbage cans in the wee hours. En route to the airport, we encountered a burning hill, but it was far enough away that we weren't scared, though worried.

The children have been staying close. We worry when there's fire. So many little ones were lost and perished in the last big one.

Of course, Faridah Peeples held up that particular exodus, sitting on the deck ignoring our repeated desperate calls and searches for her. She's gone now, rest her soul, and I've neglected watering her camellia, which survives.

Nose rubs to all 922.
