Virulent Calicivirus
What a thing to come home to: In a letter from our vetz, "Virulent systemic feline calicivirus (VS-SCV) is a highly contagious mutagen of the traditional calcivirus... This new strain is now estimated to have a death rate of approximately 60%. It is essential that all cats, whether indoor or outdoor dwellers, be vaccinated against this new strain of the virus... We recommend vaccinating all cats with two doses given three weeks apart." Oy. Oy. Oy. And so on....
Culinary Adventures Continue
Add olive oil and tomato sauce to the ever-growing list of foods that Cyrrie eats with gusto (but only as finger food, of course)...

Yesterday
When I came home yesterday, the "babies" came down from the attic and lay down, very formally, side by side, in the hallway. The looked like sphinxes, with their big paws stretched out in front and their great golden eyes gazing straight ahead. It was, actually, magnigficent - majestic, even - and I thought, Where are my little goofballs? And almost as I thought it, the little goofballs came back...

Lucy's Turn
The human is working at the dining room table, filling out forms. Lucy is there, rolling over the paperwork, purring estatically, so the human pets her for a while, then rolls her out of the way to go back to work. Lucy rolls back. Etc. Etc. When the human finally says, You are a nuisance, Lucy nips her on the eyebrow! Cat (and kitten) love can take strange forms...

AreToo Makes My Point
A little while ago AreToo came into the computer room and spoke, and so the human, of course, stopped everything and gave him pets and sweet-talk. Then she went back to the computer. The next thing she knew he was half on the desk and pulling over one of the speakers. She clapped at him, and he ceased, and ran over to the bedroom and jumped up on the bed. So what else could she do but follow him, and stay, petting and sweet-talking until the buzzy little droid was finally satisfied - it took quite a while...

Sigh...
The gigantic monsters formerly known as "the kittens" have been playing up and down the the attic stairs - pounce on something, carry it up a few steps, let it escape, chase it down again, etc. They're obviously having a great time, and the human is curious - which toy is it that has inspired this excellent game? Is it a catnip mouse? A rattly mouse? A squeaky mouse? A feather-tailed mouse? Nope, it is a leaf: a semi-decomposed succulent leaf from high up in a living room window...
Need To Take Cyrano 101
Sitting at the computer with Cyrrie brushing my legs, I reach down to pet him. Instead he nibbles my fingers (gobbles, actually). So I pick him up and he purrs thunderously - and then jumps down and runs away! ??? And we've done this about 4 times so far this morning...

Important Anniversaries Coming Up
May 1st
Official birthday of Cloud and Cyrrie - they will be 3 years old!
May 9th
The existence of the feral kittens who became the Marygrove 6 was made known to various humans, one of whom thought she had a good idea...
May 10th
This human first eyeballed the new kittens when they were taken to the vetz.
May 12th
The new kittens moved in temporarily - first there were 6, then 3, then 2 - Cloud still wants to know why it had to stop there...

Her Routine
First it's the softness brushing back and forth against your ankles, then the tickly toe washing, then you pick her up and she purrs and washes your fingers and nibbles the tips and it's all done so intensely. Then, just when you're going to put her down again, she goes to sleep in your arms. Such a silly...
Not A Foodie
Late last night, in a crowded kitchen, the human shared bits of cold bacon with the rowdy usuals - and all the while Angel calmly munched his crunchies...

Extra Treat!
Probably prematurely, the human re-opened the door to the attic - and now there are no cats or kittens visible on the main floor...
Treat!
Human came home from a local history conference and - because it's such a beautiful day - opened the bedroom window (we'd had FancyFeast last night). Almost everybody agrees that the open window is (almost) as cool as FF (Cyrrie is still thinking it over). (Cyrrie says, Nope, sorry, it should have been plus FF...)

LMS Vs LOL
Laughed myself sick: Tonight, in the kitchen, I was sharing some ham with the usuals - Cyrrie, Cloud and AreToo. I was shredding ham and distributing it when Cloud finished off her portion sooner than expected, and moved in on AreToo's. AreToo backed off immediately - head and body withdrew, but left behind was one paw at the end of one very long leg - completely covering and firmly clamped down on his bit of ham. After quickly re-supplying Cloud, I went away and LMS...
Kissy-Faces: It's Nature, I Think
Cloud and Cyrrie are, Angel and Aretoo are not. Petunnia is. Buddy is. Banshee and Lucy, not. The kissy-faces are the ones who wash you - sometimes it's just a few quick licks, sometimes... not. Today Cloud was snoozing on one chair, with little Cyrrie on the other. The human sat on the floor with the camera, but after a while the temptation to pet them became irresistible. They woke up just enough to grab her hands - Cyrrie the left, Cloud the right - and hold them and wash... And wash. And wash. And wash....
Angel Again
This time it was a commotion in the computer room, but then the human arrived, Cloud was there, and Cyrrie, but not much was happening. Weird, huh. But while the human waited, perplexed, a certain little face popped out from under the sideboard! Then it was once around the room - a victory lap, clearly - and off down the hall to look for new vict, er, opportunities for merry making...

Angel Explained
All is forgiven when Angel "goes crazy on" his human - it is just too cutely irresistible...
They Do Make Me Laugh
Tonight, as I went to bed with a good book (Carl Hiaasen), Petunnia and Buddy arrived almost simultaneously, and the diplomatic maneuvering was fascinating - Toonya settled in - determinedly oblvious - at the foot of the bed, while Buddy got in his pets and duly departed. Humans should manage their affairs so well... (Ok, let's not mention Angel....!)
How Angel Spent His Morning
Angel decided it would be fun to stalk Banshee, which is definitely on the not-approved activities list. First he chased her into the bedroom and trapped her under the nightstand, but then it was human-to-the-rescue for Bansh, while Angel had to flee into the closet. Then we had stalemate - Banshee would not come out from under the nightstand, and Angel would not come out of the closet, where he was poised to pounce again. When Angel realized the human had no intention of deserting Banshee, he tried to pounce on her anyway! Banshee hissed and the human got between them and Angel angled off into the hallway, no doubt thinking smug and mischievous thoughts...
Good Morning, Human Girl
It's only 8:20 am, and we've already:
- Pushed an open bag of crunchies off the dining room table (her bad for leaving it there for - what - 5 min?) (She'll probably vacuum, now.)
- Chased (Cyrrie, that is) Petunnia right into Buddy, but thank goodness the human was on the spot (Be sweet! Be good!)
So talented, and - fortunately - so cute...

Real Time Blogging (Almost)
When the human got up this morning, she looked around for the snake while she did the other usual things - topping off crunchies bowls, counting cats and kittens, etc. A bit later, back in bed with coffee and book, the snake dramatically arrived - Angel ran in, dropped the snake on the bed with a rattle, and, at least temporarily, ran out. It is very satisfying to actually eyeball a snake-kitten interaction....
