Extra Pics

PoliticalCat, these are for you - Notice the little orange dot on her back? It's very cute. And her stripey tail? Which is super-sized compared to the rest of her...

Oh, she is gorgeous! I love her little dot. It looks like someone kissed her there for protection. I don't suppose she was microchipped? She seems much too good and sweet to not have had a hoomin. I hope she stays with you if possible, or someone as good and kind and loving as you. I'm sure she agrees. Little Nubie, good thoughts to you.

PS: Whatever happened to the feral male?

Hi, TPC - How are you today? I would like to know where she came from, too, but she was so scrawny and dirty it was clear she she'd been on her own for a while... (I haven't seen the male again - my rule for wild cats is, if I see you I'll feed you, but I won't put out food just in case...) It broke my heart to leave her locked up this morning!

Hi, Lizzy! I'm just back from PT and feeling really good (if a little sore). Cutting down on the painkillers was a good idea. Poor little Nubie! Maybe her peeplez just booted her out, or moved and left her behind.

I used to leave out food 24/7 for the ferals, but the skunks and raccoons and possums took over in force, so I don't do that any more.

How are the other children reacting to the new presence? Intrepid AreToo must be exchanging paw hairs with the new resident. I'm so excited about her. Lately I've been having kitten fever, which is exacerbated by the visible aging of the older cats. I know they'd hate having a new member added to the family, but I can't help thinking how cute a new kitten would be ... oh, well. I shall wait patiently for the next Nubie Nuus report.

Hi, TPC - I'm not sure what to expect - on either front... Tonight I sat with her for around 40 min, and during that time there were growls from both sides of the pantry door. One way or another, I hope to move her into the computer room tomorrow. Even if she's alone, she'll have more space and windows! I still haven't called my potential adopter - something freudian there? But I really should be concentrating on what will make her the happiest! Feel free to nudge me in that direction! And pls, how did your cinco gatos come to be a community/family??

P.S., 2 kittens, 2 is what you should be considering...!

Ah, my dear little fambly. Well, back in the day it was Faridah Peeples (so called because she really treated hoominz as an inferior life form) and Ramon Rivera (relative of the famous artist and muralist Diego) and me. And when Ramon was getting old and creaky, and my partner and I broke up, I was miserable and spent a lot of time being broken-hearted. Then my good friend was diagnosed with diabetes, and decided that life was to be lived to the fullest. And what would cure me of my broken heart was - kittens! So she found some, via the Internet, and took me to meet them. There were four little ones with their teenage Mom, and one was spoken for and the nice lady of the house said she was going to get the teenage Momcat spayed and let her keep her pretty little girlkitty (who looked exactly like Mom) and would I like to take the black-and-white Bandicoot and his ginger-coloured brother. I said, no, one will do, I'll take Bandicoot. But she said, no, she wouldn't let Bandicoot go alone (and now I see she was right) but, most important, that Zingiber MUST have his brother with him. She didn't tell me (wisely) that Zingy was A Cat Of Very Little Brain, although he certainly displayed a fearful temperament, crying loudly and reacting badly to anything strange, myself included. So after several repeat visits, we drove Bandicoot and Zingiber home, and they helped me through the inevitable passing of Ramon (so very sad!) and multiple other heartbreaks.

When they were teenagers, a friend at the office came crying to me with a sad story about how a pregnant cat was hiding under her house and would I take two of her kittens. Since the (no longer pregnant) cat had brutally assaulted my friend's husband, who was purportedly going to call Animal Control and have the lot put down, I couldn't say no, could I? (In the interim, my pitifully inadequate naysaying powers had been overwhelmed by two other FIV-positive kitties, Domino and Simona, who came to live with us but were incurably feral and prefer till today to live outdoors, though Domino still comes by for food daily, and hangs out with the other kitties on the deck.)

So I took Madu and Gojira, and their mother, but she was too feral and made her escape out onto the hill. I fear she is no longer around, but she may simply have found better environs. After all, my neighbour's cat left home and returned after two years, shocking the daylights of her now-grown kittens and smacking the sweet life out of them besides stealing their food. Also, Simona disappeared, but again, that could well be the same story -- she found better food, or hoominz.

Not long after Madu and Gojira moved in, my sister called to say she was leaving for Australia and could I help her out by taking Gustav and Greta, and Corky the Dog. Well, they all had very sad stories -- both Gustav and Greta were abused kitties, and Corky's story would bring tears to you eyes, and he was such a good dog!!

So there I was, with Faridah, Greta, Gustav, Bandicoot, Zingiber, Domino, Simona, GrayGirl, Madu, Gojira, and Corky. For a while, it was holy pandemonium here, since we also had a regular visitor named Bob-the-almost-bobcat, who was hostile to all (he drew blood from me so regularly, I was thinking of getting him needles). Then Simona and GrayGirl ran off, and Domino moved next door with Boca, who tolerates him well. Faridah went to the Rainbow Bridge, soon to be joined by Greta, who threw a blood clot.

We lost Corky a couple of years ago. And now it's just us here at La Casa de Los Gatos. Although I fear Bandicoot and Zingiber and Gustav are getting old now ...

What a great story - and what lucky little people... Even the ones who wandered away got their second chance thanks to you! One question: where did GrayGirl come in??

Oh, GrayGirl is the feral Mom of Gojira and Madu. She was around for quite a while, whispering things into the kittenz' ears, but one day she took off and didn't come back. Course they were grown up by then ...
