The Territory Thing

Last night, as usual, this human was reading in bed - with cats (and "kittens") - starting with Angel, fast asleep on the pillow by the window, and Buddy, snoozing on a fleece at the foot of the bed... Enter 'Toonya. Up she jumps, and, of course, looks with disapproval at the first-comers. Never-the-less, she makes her way to the head of the bed, and seems to settle on the pillow next to the human. The human goes back to her book, and the next thing she knows Petunnia is at the foot of the bed, Buddy's on the floor and heading out the door. Buddy! The human cries. Come back... Buddy hesitates, but leaves anyway. Satisfied, Petunnia returns to "her" pillow. Angel sleeps through it all. Then comes La Luz. She can't jump (way too plump), but she can claw/crawl/climb her way up. She settles - with much purring and kneading - on a fleece in the middle of the bed. Angel sleeps on, but you can tell 'Toonya's hackles are if not actually up at least out of whack. There, there, says the human. Also: Be good, be sweet... She pets both girls, and Angel for good measure. And when all seems well, goes back to reading. And the next thing Lucy is jumping down (she can jump down) and following after the departed Buddy. Lucy, come back! the human says, to no avail. And the satisfied Princess resumes her pillowy throne. And the Angel sleeps. And the human reads. A little while later the human realizes that Buddy is back at the foot of the bed, and that Petunnia is settling for giving him a look (whatever!) and Angel is still sleeping away. (Lucy came back, too.)

New Batteries Desperately Needed!

As I took a few pics this afternoon, I literally watched the camera's power evaporate... (I think there's a couple of good ones, though, which I will try to post sometime tomorrow.)

Hi, TPC -

We're so glad the little C boy gave you a chuckle! And in exchange for an update on your health, we will give you the remainder of the... shoelaces story! (Not expecting that, were you?) But in fact, when Cyrrie lost interest in the shoelaces, Petunnia got interested. Classic, classy Petunnia - she knew how cats and "kittens" are supposed to interact with shoelaces! Giving in to her inner kitten, she attacked! Oh, it was cute. Adorable, even. Needless to say, the human deferred getting ready for work until 'Toonya had shoelaced to her heart's content. (Now, how's it going?)

Morning After Foodie Anxiety Syndrome

Last night Cyrrie and his human shared a slice of pizza. So this morning of course he is over-the-top on the lookout for anything that might even possibly be... food! When he cries at the attic door and it is opened for him, he pauses - you can actually read the thought balloon: What if I'm upstairs and there's food and I miss it? A little while later as the human ties her shoelaces, Cyrrie watches closely, because you just never know when it might be food! When the human tops up the crunchies bowls, however, there are no bright brown eyes following her every move, no freckled nose sniffing, no tail upright with hope and, therefore, happiness. Alas, says the thought balloon, it's health food. Again!

Oh, Dear

(Again.) My brother came to visit, and I inadvertently took him into the computer room to see the garden window. I had totally forgotten that one of the chairs was not currently covered over with a throw - a chair that was our grandmother's, and is now in, how shall we say this, tatters... (My sweet brother never said a word.)

Funny Angel

I did the last little bit of miscellaneous laundry this afternoon - just odds and ends - napkins, wash cloths, hand towels and slippies - a red pair w/ holes, and 2 grey ones that didn't match. When I brought the last mini-armload up from the basement I tossed most of it (warm and toasty) onto the dining room table but the slippies on the bed. After I'd folded all the stuff that needed folding, I went into the bedroom - and there was the Angel, on top of the weirdly shaped slippie pile, matching his little bod to it and totally totally asleep and utterly content. I did take a picture, but it did not do credit to the cute slash funny... (Not to mention heart-wrenchingly adorable!)

This Morning

Before going to work I went downstairs to clean the lower-level kitty litters - and one was totally overturned! I can't even imagine how that happened! (Oh, for web-cams, everywhere...!)

St Patrick Stuff

I did wear green (sort of), but so did some of the babes - green-eyed Banshee (hey, that's Irish, right?), Petunnia, Lucy and Buddy... (The brown and golden-eyeds are all like green? Green? As if...)

Is It Monday Already???

Yikes! But all is well. Cats and "kittens" seem fine, in spite of much vacuuming over the weekend... (Remind me to tell about Banshee's brilliant hiding spot.) ThePoliticalCat - who is doing well, according to her blog-site - we can't wait to hear from you in person! 922s send their homeopathic and assorted purrs in your direction!! And tomorrow is Irish Day, which this human will probably forget, in spite of being somewhat or even mostly Irish...

Sweetness Blogging

A little while ago Cloud and Banshee were on the dining room table together. I approached Cloud first, and cleaned her gunky little eyes, then petted her face (while she drooled)... Moving on I cleaned Banshee's eyes, then petted her. Imagine my surprise when Cloud came over and started to wash Banshee's face - even as I continued to pet her... (Even Banshee seemed struck by the sweetness of the situation.)

Forgiveness Blogging

I
Yesterday I had arranged to take Banshee in for her asthma shot - if I could catch her... That morning as I chatted with the grandhuman, I casually mentioned the plan, and immediately the Bansh slid in slow motion down off the dining room table, down the hallway and up the attic stairway. Damn! However, many hours were still to elapse before we hit our assigned window of opportunity, 3:00 - 5:00 pm. And when the clocks struck 3:00 (or 3:00ish) Banshee was back, smuggly unsuspecting, and I was able to scoop her up and with only a little difficulty package her for the hated trip to... the vetz! Once there she had to endure the company of 3 large and larger, rambunctious, noisy dogs - and, perhaps worse, one totally laid back cat (lives there). But we were done in record time, and "home again, home again" as I say to re-assure them (doesn't work). For the rest of the day Banshee slithered in another direction whenever I came into the room, but I seem to be back in her good graces today.
II
There are times when the Cloudling just doesn't want to be picked up. And if you persist, she makes her displeasure exceedingly clear (bad language, chirping, etc.). However, there were 2 squirrels and many birds, and she was missing them by not being in the garden window at the right time. Her human clutched her (gingerly) and transported her to the back of the house where she became instantly mesmerized... (And I assume forgave me completely, although you never really know.)

Not-The-Same Posting

I
Today I came across a little sausage thingy, the kind you get in gift packages, so I took it out of the fridge and put it on a cutting board on the counter by sink. I added a bit of cheese, and eventually cut a slice of each and munched... And then went off to do something else. When I came back to the kitchen, the cheese was there but not the sausage. Hmm. Had I put it back in the fridge? No. I looked all over the kitchen feeling like I'd lost my mind, but I'm sure you're way ahead of me here. There, in the dining room, were Cyrrie and Cloud and the sausage (I'm sure Cloud was the actual culprit, who then shared sweetly with her brother and fellow foodie Cyrano). I picked up the sausage - they'd actually managed to munch quite a bit off one end. Even more yucky was all the dust and - of course - cat hair it had aquired. Washing it off, I got out 3 saucers, chopped, and portioned it out in 3 equal amounts (AreToo was bound to show up eventually). Were they happy? Absolutely not. It seems it was much tastier when stollen. (A little while later, though, all saucers were mysteriously empty...)
II
The hardest part of doing laundry? Having to - eventually - break their little hearts by folding the blankies. For 2 days they had enjoyed a mountainscape of laundry piled high on the dining room table. At one point there were 5 of them lounging together. Today they resisted peacefully as I tugged one towel or blanky or tablecloth after another out from under their little butts. Eventually everything was folded and many of the blankies were placed back on the table for them to snooze on - but you could tell it just wasn't the same...
