Updating, Laptop Style
On account of the computer room is occupied... Well, Baby, aka Poppet, aka Cinderalla, is ensconced in the computer room, so we're activating the laptop as a secondary blogging port: 2 things: la nueva princessa seems to be ok, and when the human departs for Omaha for a wedding! the nubbie will be staying with the grandhuman! I'm hoping it will be loverly all around.... I still haven't decided on whether to take the laptop or not - internet junkie that I am - so if we're mostly off-line fron Wednesday through mid-day on Sunday, that will be why. Cyrrie and AreToo are hugely curious, but everyone else seems to be avoiding the issue. More manana! La Casa de los
Gatos: I loved your family history, but how do you keep it all together?? How did you introduce them? How did you help them bond???

Awww! The grandhuman is good hoominz! Won't taking teh laptop help you keep in touch with the little ones? Surely they log in on the desktop and read your blog, since they're responsible for making you write it!
Keeping it all together has never occurred in this house of no doors! At least none that lock, or aren't made of glass, through which they can hiss at each other enthusiastically. I tried keeping them in separate rooms but there was so much bad language and uncivilized behaviour that I gave up and let them sort it out. I think I felt OK about that because I knew that Bandicoot and Zingiber were really sweet-natured and gentle, and Ramon took Bandicoot under his wing, or paw, or whatever (although he couldn't stand Zingiber, poor Zeeb). Faridah just hated everybody, but satisfied herself with one smack on the head for anyone who dared to come near her, so they all, sensibly, stayed away. Later, when the kittens arrived, Ramon was gone, and GrayGirl stayed away from EVERYONE, and I knew that neither ZB nor 'Cootz would hurt the kittenz, and I was right. ZB fell in love with Gojira, and they always sleep together although every now and then he cleans her ears too enthusiastically and she retaliates by bopping him as fast and hard as she can. Everybody tolerated Greta (except Faridah, of course), and everybody hated Gustav, who reacted by attempting to kill them all. Much biting, scratching, bad language, and shouts of "Gustav, dammit!" but after his mother passed on, Bandicoot took Gustav under his paw (because he's just such a sweet Coot, you know) and Gustav eventually learned How To Be A Cat, as my vet says.
So, no science about it, just lots of sloppiness and sentiment and the best kitties in the world. Sweet kids. I'm lovin' them extra today, probly because they've been outside all day instead of inside, underfoot, and annoying the bejesus out of me.
Bonding them involved treats. I would give them all treats at the same time in a five-foot radius and gradually move the circle closer and closer until they were sitting all around me. But mostly, that was their issue, not mine, that is, I tried to help them be friends, but they definitely picked who they wanted to be friends with. Sometimes, for example, Madu and ZB are friendly, but mostly they ignore each other, whereas ZB and his brother love each other but ZB is also jealous of his brother (Cootz) when I show him too much affection. ZB loves Gojira best of all, and she loves him. Madu and Gojira loved each other very much when they were kittens. Now, not so much. Madu's happy to be left alone by the other cats, although he does sometimes curl up with ZB, and, rarely, with Cootz. Very rarely, he will sleep beside his sister. More commonly, they smack each other senseless. Gustav is now back in everyone's good graces except Madu's. Madu and he REALLY don't like each other much, and it's a rare day when they don't exchange words.
Ask me more, if you like.
I love this - can there be a social science version of chaos theory?? You are one great human, howeverz itz spelled!
