Nubia

She loves the h2o... When I try to get ready in the morning, she's right there, under my nose, definitely interfering. This morning I tried to compromise: I ran a thin trickle of cold water for her for about 5 min - then I gave her the boot. (Actually I toted her into the bedroom, put her down on the bed and tried to talk her into taking a nap - amazingly, after a first few min of indignation, she bought into it, and snoozed...)

Back At It

10 hr day today - worse tomorrow - so nice to come home to the sweeties... Nubia just let me tote her around and rub her toesies - I mean, can it get any sweeter than that? I may have to wait for Wednesday for any real catching up, but, for the record, the guys continue cute, etc. I'd better go therapy-hug someone (therapy for me, that is).

Well, It Wasn't Exactly Lickety-Split

But, after all, the operative words are home again, home again... La Nubia met me at the door, followed by Cyrrie and the Droid. I hunted down Cloud (on the dining room table), Buddy (on the bed) and 'Toonya (in the living room on the Morris chair). Angel just sort of appeared mid-search, but for a long while there was no Lucy. Human managed not to panic: she unpacked, all the while going, Luuuuceeeee...
La Luz finally deigned to put in an appearance, only to be mugged - I mean cuddled - by her neurotically lonesome human....

Feral Cat Update

Although we've been putting out food and water faithfully ever since Jennifer's rescue of the feral from the freeway, no one from the Library has actually seen any cat (or other critter) actually eating the food. Last night a cat-loving, cigarette-smoking, faculty member confided that she's seen a "light and dark" cat hanging by the Library walls... It has to be him!

Should I Blog This?

Even though I live in a house with a basement, I keep one litter box on the main floor for the sake of (now) Petunnia, just in case she'd rather not limp down the basement stairs. Of course, while Petunnia literally limps downstairs, many of the younger ones prefer the upstairs bathroom (again, literally, it's in the bathroom). This morning, while Nubia was interrupting my use of the bathroom sink, Angel came in to pee. And she would have done it! She would have jumped right down on him, traumatizing him forever. Instead I held her until he was finished, then said, Angel, run for it! (And he did.)

Another Brother

This is Duncan, litter-mate to Angel and AreToo (and Wicket and Trouble) - Duncan wore himself out charming the human girls who had another session of tea and tabbies last week...

A Mystery

Yesterday when I heard bad language I started to look around. Nubia accounted for, clearly innocent on this occasion at least... And there was Angel, also clearly not involved in whatever was transpiring. Then I see Petunnia and Buddy glaring at each other in the living room, and I'm like, Guys! Set a good example, huh? And then I see Cloud and AreToo facing off in the dining room! What are the odds that there would be 2 "incidents" at the same time, and neither one involving them...

From A Couple Days Ago

There was an absolutely dreadful shriek from the computer room, and I arrived to find poor little Cyrrie back into a corner by Nubia, paws flying in all directions. I stamped my foot and Nubia never missed a beat, doing a quick u-turn and waltzing just far enough away to begin a who, me? washing session. I can be so mad at her one minute, and the next she has me laughing out loud. (Cyrrie wants you to know, he didn't think it was funny.)

What's Making Me Happy Today

Friend and co-worker Michelle's newest batch of rescued feral kittens - OMG, are they ever beautiful... I've been loving on those little faces for half the day now, and it only seems right to share!

Oh, Jeez

I thought I'd do a little therapy blogging - work is rough - but first I started to stream Mike Mallow, and heard about Mary Travers. And now they're playing PP&M as bumper music (if that's the right term). We've been losing seriously good people lately, it seems. Love to all.

Wow, Late Again

It's been several very hard / tiring / stressful days, if that's any excuse... On the plus side, as I got up way early to go to work today, I got to see Nubia in the hallway in pursuit of some (presumably existent) bug (I can't see dirt, if you know what I mean). AreToo and Angel came to kibbutz - which was my Irish grandfather's term for over-the-shouldering someone's card game... (There maybe alternate spellings.) In any case: Nubia was going to town on some tiny bug, when suddenly she realized there was bigger and better prey to be had: Angel! She chased him down, while AreToo went after the original bug...

Fall Cleaning Blogging

I cleaned out a couple of drawers in the computer room today - heaven knows how long it'd been since I'd looked in them. I found a few vhs movies (original Big Sleep, LOTR, Bladerunner) which I'll take into the Library, but more importantly some cat toys, never taken out of their baggies: feathery things, and those little springy sticks, and a big bag of organic catnip, which I remembered searching for, unsuccessfully. I opened it and sniffed. Hmm, I thought, stale. But when I asked their opinion, the guys were totally enthusiastic, so I spread large quantities about and watched them "enjoy" - I even have some pics...

Spider Blogging

A couple of days ago I noticed a spider web and a big spider right outside my bedroom window. (It took me a minute to be sure it was outside, so I could go into curiosity mode rather than panic.) It's body was about as big as the end of my thumb, colored brown and red and yellow; it's legs seemed to be red and yellow striped. Yesterday it was gone, but in the meantime someone assured me it was a good garden spider, so I was mostly glad to see it again, today. I tried to photograph it, but my camera refused to focus on it, and I'm not knowledgeable enough to try the manual settings. I'm going to have someone trim my ivy (I always hate that, but I know it can't be growing over the roof), and I made a point of showing him the spider: Don't get bit, but don't disturb it, either. And Brandon was cool with it...
