Flirty Angel

Angel does this thing, catching my eye or sometimes sinking a claw into my leg to get my attention, then pivoting off and heading to the bedroom. There he sprawls out on the bed, the better to be petted and kissed and so forth. We can do this many times in a single morning. This morning Buddy was already on the bed when Angel got there, so while Angel arranged himself in the farthest corner (he always does that) I stopped to give Buddy a kiss first. Oh, noes! Buddy got Angel's kiss! So Angel demanded - and got - extra kisses. Many of them. Many, many...

A Sense Of The Season, They Haz It

To say that we have many cat toys is to laugh. They are stored in big baskets, and there's a pile on the dining room table and another on the bed. In every room there's at least one visible toy on the floor, and many others under chairs and dressers, etc. It is not unusual for the human to get up in the morning and find a toy in the middle of the hallway. This morning it was a black felt bat with red eyes - which the human has not seen in ages...

Sunday Night Window Blogging

It's lovely tonight, so the regular bedroom window is open, and amazingly Nubia and Angel are sharing the window well, nose to nose... Kindred spirits! sez the human. Oh, no, Mom, sez Angel: She's a sociopath, and I'm only a psychopath! (Or is it the other way 'round...?)

Windows Blogging (Not The Microsoft Kind)

There are 2 windows in the bedroom - the one we photograph, where cats and "kittens" cluster to bird watch - and one right against the bed. I keep the blind down on that one and the curtains pulled, on account of my neighbor's house being like 6 feet away... Angel, however, likes that window: he especially likes it in the middle of the night - when he makes all sorts of noise as he squeezes himself behind the mini-blind, and his sleep-deprived human curses and tries to cover them up with pillows. Recently I noticed that the blind there was up about 2 inches, with Angel lying placidly on the bed looking out. My theory is that in playing with the cord (another ongoing dispute between us) he'd managed to adjust the length of the blind, which suited him perfectly....

Nubia Helps Mama

It was way early this morning, still mostly dark and I still didn't have my contactz in. I was taking vitamins and dropped the jar of e's. The flip top popped open and I could hear the vitamins falling on the floor. For reasons I won't go into here, at the moment I have almost no artificial light in my kitchen. I didn't know if a cat or "kitten" would chomp on a gelcap or not; I didn't know what vitamin e would do to them if they did, but I certainly didn't want to take any chances. Before I could get the flashlight, though, I realized I had an alternative technique available to me: Nubia! I just followed her nosey little nose and together we gathered up a dozen or so e's.

Nubia Learning Not To Bite Update

She had that look - that eyes big and very dark, lower jaw hanging down like a snake about to swallow something large - that I'm going to bite you look. Taking my life in my hands - or something - I bumped noses with her. She looked so surprised...

Human Blogging

These last few weeks I've been like riding a pendulum between utter exhaustion and intense stress - at the far exhaustion end, there's a state a little like rest, but not really; in the opposite direction, at the peak, there's something that suggests energy but really isn't. If you haven't read it already, I highly recommend Michael Moore's piece, "15 Things Every American Can Do Right Now" - especially part 3...

Electrical Blogging

Where does one buy rechargeable batteries, anyway? At the dollar store? Probably not. And what is the technical term for those boxy power plugs that you need for computery things like speakers? About 2 weeks ago the speakers in the computer room quit working. I was guessing (hoping) that a plug was knocked loose, probably by a certain "kitten" who shall remain nameless but whose name is Nubia! (I think it should be spelled just like that, in italics and with an exclamation mark!) Yesterday I finally crawled under the desk to sort through all the wires and cables and outlet boards (and dust), and I was right about the perp if not the actual crime committed: there was the power unit, with it's 2 twisted wires - one of which was bitten right through...

Sunday Morning Word Blogging

On account of a) I just took a lot of bad pictures and b) the batteries just died again. (Life span is down to about 12 hours these days...)

Actually All This Happened Yesterday

Cloud Blogging
I
Human dressed in black yesterday, whoops! First she spent about 5 min with the rolly-sticky. Then she forgot and carried a whole load of freshly dried laundry upstairs! More time with the rolly-sticky. (Do they have an actual name??) Then the human picked up and cuddled the Cloudling! Back to square one!
II
Human - working on the dining room table - was trying to transfer some large egg noodles into a glass jar - not entirely successfully. Cloud, Cyrrie and AreToo all watched with great interest, but only Cloud actually tried to eat the dry noodle chips. (Human intervened, of course.)
III
Right before leaving for work, human spent some time loving on the Cloud; Cloud spend some time drooling (copiously) on the human. I read a while ago that some of them forget to swallow when they purr. Hence...

We're Still Here

No thx to our human, though. Human sez, Poor human! She had a hard week, that last one. Tonight she will rack her brain trying to remember all those sweet, cute, adorable and hilarious incidents... All of them. All. Oh, dear. Then she'll make some up: Nubia smacked some boyz around some. And then some. Angel made Cloud swear. Violently. Petunnia and Buddy slept with their human at the same time, which is not at all the same as sleeping with each other. Cyrrie investigated all sorts of food and could-have-been-foods. AreToo yawned musically at least several times. Lucy needed to be combed and managed to escape. There was FancyFeast. And such like...

Way Early This Morning

So early, in fact, it's a wonder I remember it... But, here goes: There's a footstool in the bathroom, to help arthritic 'Toonya into the bathtub, where the best water for drinking - and spilling - is located. Today it was occupied by the Cloudling, who was peering over the edge of the tub and - most unhappily - viewing the Droidling, of whom she sometimes (ok, frequently) disapproves. To make matters worse, in dances the Nubie, with disrespect and probably worse in mind. You remember the old rock song, Killer Queen - "dynamite with a laser beam" - well, it was before Nubia's time, but she got the message just the same and did a u turn as Cloud scorched her with those special Cloud eye-beams... (AreToo, too, decided discretion was in order at least just this once.)

Almost Forgot To Blog This

On Saturday, when the human attended 2 health care reform rallies, she had actually invited Angel to join her... Angel: Is health care reform not ever having to go to the vetz again? Human: Um, no, sweetheart, not exactly... (That would be Republican health care reform, wouldn't it?)

Well, At Least That One Actually Showed Up!

I'm Ticked

That my first post of today has totally disappeared, even though it was published and should also have been saved in draft form...
I'll try to reconstruct, but it's never really the same:
Part I
Nubia raids a book case. She pulls down one book (which is actually still right where she left it) - The Vampire Lestat! Coincidence? Doubtful - just look at those pearly white teefies....
Part II
Human notices that Nubia spends most of her time in the garden window when her human is also in the computer room.....

True Story

I got up this morning and, there in the hallway, surrounding the attic door, were 3 boyz: Cyrrie, AreToo and Angel, all with their noses at the space between the floor and door. When they saw their human they booked, all looking... guilty? No, of course not. Embarrassed? Unlikely. Well, looking at least like they'd been caught doing something which they did not want to be caught doing. Curious, the human opened the firmly closed door (which had not been the case the night before). And out comes... Nubia! They somehow or other managed to lock her into the stairwell! Of course it could have been an accident. Of course it could. Of course.

Buddy!

Not a good pic but I think this means I've posted everyone today...

What, Thursday Already?

I think Angel is - perhaps unfortunately - recovering from the shock of La Nubia coming to live with us: he's been making Cloud crazy, and just this morning he actually jumped on Lucy - it was a total tackle and Angel was clearly expecting a fun wrastle to follow. Lucy wasn't. Mom grabbed the Angel and gave him the usual punitive cuddle. Angel sez, Well, it's still a good thing I'm cute...!

Back To Blogging?

I haven't done much lately, but I hope today is the start of more regular posting:
So, 2 things today:
Mystery Blogging
Early this morning I took the bird seed out to the platform feeder that I've been keeping on the driveway way at the back. As usual, a few birdies noticed me - or, at least, noticed the food - and began to spread the word. After a few minutes back inside I looked out the window, and was surprised to see... no one. Nothing. And then I noticed a squirrel perched like a little statue on the peak of my garage roof. Hmm. And Hmm, again, I thought. Checking a few minutes later, the squirrel was facing the grass and trees and bushes, as if watching something that was intimidating her/him as well as the birds. Eventually I had to go back outside and look around. I saw nothin', nada... But maybe something saw me, because a little later the birds and squirrels (plural) were feasting on bird seed mix and sunflower seeds. Hmm....
Nubia Blogging
Just about the time I think she's mellowing out and fitting in, she goes on a rampage. This morning I don't even know who set her off, but she was like a little furry pool ball, careening into other furries, and generally creating chaos. I don't know who all she careened into, but the growls, hisses and general bad language were multiple. Eventually she knocked over a lamp, and Mom was mad. So mad that Nubia actually noticed. I chased her into the bedroom only to see her cute little butt disappear under the bed. And she stayed disappeared for many minutes...

It's Fall

For real. I went to bed last night with the window cracked. When I got up this am it seems coldish, and when I checked the thermostat it was 58'! Yikes! I put the furnace on right away. No wonder Buddy and AreToo and Nubia and Cyrrie were all hogging the fleeces...

Monster Story

Yesterday, watering the porch plants, I had a little yellow striped cat come up and talk to me. My rule is, I will put food outside if I actually see a cat that might need it. So I put a bowl of wet food by the driveway - by that time I could hear it but not see it anymore... Then I left for the day. So I don't actually know if the cat ate or not, but I suspect not. When I got home rather late last night something rat-like but disturbingly large ran away from the headlights. I realized it had been by the bowl I'd put out earlier. I sat in the car for a minute, totally creeped out, and then the details started to come into focus - it had been large for a rat - rather pale for a rat - and rather slower than I imagine a rat would run. Possum is my bet...
